Question Holy Snails?

So i bought some plants, they had snails. I was worried at first but have since welcomed the interlopers into the community. Now that I've done that I have noticed that these baby snails have very thin shells and some even have holes in them. I had a couple MTS but most appear to be baby mystery snails or some other similar variety. They are gold, blue, or brown in color and all seem to have a similar problem.

What do I need to add to help their delicate little shells to develop properly?

Hi texas,
You need to manage the KH/GH degrees of hardness. You will need test kits for these. You need the water to be at least 8-12 degrees of hardness.(Also research each of your fish to see what hardness they can tolerate) The water is too acidic and is eating away at their calcium shell. To harden the water you can add baking soda...little at a time to give it a chance to work..also adding this WILL drive up your PH.. I use 1/8 tsp a day or every other for my 37gallon tank. Some say you can put in crushed coral or a seashell in your filter...I am currently testing that method. I only speak from experience. I will let you know how it goes.

Also since you have plant eating snails (unlike me..I have nerites)You have the advantage.. you can give them spinach...it is high calcium. You can tackle the calcium prob from both angles..

Hope this helps!
