Gold Apple/Mystery Snail

Hey guys,

I bought a gold mystery snail today :] I went to get more aquarium gravel and decided to get one at petsmart.

I'm getting live plants, but I don't think one snail will be able to devour a tank full of live plants, and if it does start eating the live plants I'll simply move it. :]

Just wondering about calcium, I though I heard people fed their snails (or maybe it was something else) tums or something for calcium. My plant fertilizer has calcium in it so will that be sufficient to keep its shell healthy? :]

Any information would be good.

Mystery snails will not eat healthy plants, so you will have no problems keeping the snail in your planted tank.

If you have a high PH/KH, added calcium may not be necessary. If your water is lacking, that is when it is a good idea to add calcium. There are lots of great calcium enriched recipes floating around on this forum.
I can help search for them, if you want to try them.

Ah, my PH is kinda high... 7.5-8 is what the liquid test kit says... cant really tell which one it is... I'm think having live plants might need it lower cus I won't have the HOB filter so more CO2 should stay in the water and stuff hmm.

Doesn't hurt to add Caltrate or Tums. I prefer Caltrate as Tums clouds the water. Not harmful, just annoying.
