Just imho, but I like snails. They keep the gravel aerated, the eat algae off the glass and off the plant leaves, and they're kinda cute. My betta tank and my husband's tank have lots of snails, but they're not causing any harm.
Plus, their population will not increase indefinitely. They'll reproduce, but as long as you're not overfeeding the tank, the population will eventually level off to what the tank can sustain. For example, in my betta tank, where the only food I add are a few betta pellets every day, the snail population has stayed small.

i have mts in mine and have never had an overpopulation issue. Feeding is the main cause of overpopulation of snails. Just watch how much you feed.

Thanks for the helpful info, Lupin! As this question is so common (and your answer so thorough), I thought it would be easier just to copy your posts to a new thread and sticky that one for use as a reference.

FWIW, I tried the vegetable bait method with zero success. I never saw more than two or three at a time on the bait, and I tried a few different vegetables. I still have hundreds of them. :(

there are snail traps you can buy. and population is still mostly dependent on how much your feeding so if they're still taking over your tank, your still feeding too much.
