The Ramshorn snail often gets a bad rap. Mostly because populations can explode if you give them too much food. If you have an explosion of snails in your tank, don't blame the snail. It's an imbalance that has created the issue. They only multiply as fast as their food source will allow. Here is a great video highlighting how beautiful these creature can be. If you have any questions, thoughts, or concerns please let me know.
I hope you enjoy it.

I raise tons of them as my crayfish eat them and they are a good clean up crew. For those of you with puffers or other swimmers that eat snails here is an easy way to keep a good supply. Depending on levels of need get 2-3 5 gal buckets and fill them 3/4 the way with tank water from water changes. Put in old plastic plants, pieces of flower pots or anything else that creates multiple smooth surfaces. Add 6-10 snails and add a small pinch of fish food, boiled lettus, peas or green beans in small portions once weekly. No need for a heater or air pump, just water surface and snails. You should have viable stock to feed off in six weeks - 2 months. The secret is to maximize the surface area below water. The snails feed off bio-film and the added food items allow them to over colonize. I have snails in every waste water bucket and I have over a dozen. If you want to really get them started quickly, toss in a few Endlers-the fish breeding doesn't hurt the sails- feed a small portion of fish food daily. The extra food increases the food supply for the snails and the waste from the Endlers increases the growth of boi-film. The Endlers don't require heat or air in this set us. Once annually, empty the bucket, fill, put everyone back in and you're good to go for 12 months.
