i wnet to the petstore the other day and saw a crayfish. I really wanted one but didn't know what to feed it minumum tank size etc. I don't know what knid of crayfish it was, but it lived in a coldwater tank with goldfishes.
My quesetion is can they live in a tropical aquarium? And also, can you give me more info on them?

I tried placing my blue one in my 55 gallon community and boy was it hellish. These guys are cool but only in at least a 10 gal species tank or tank with large fish in it. I read various articles online stating that they pray on goldfish as well but I have one in with him tho he is around 4 inches. I feed it frozen brine shrimp cubes and emerald entree cubes tho he also goes for fresh, enriched shrimp from the dehli and occasionaly fish flakes(rarely tho)

We never saw him eating anybody but fish would just "disappear" overnight.
True they are nocturnal. Unless u have some serious large plants offering tons of shades u probably will never see them actively in broad daylight. Worst fish to have with these guys are bottom dwellers(cories, loaches, shrimp, ect.) as they are easy targets at night.

Currently I have a 7 inch Pleco with my 6 inch blue crayfish. They are doing fine. The Pleco was stressed out in the first few days, after that, they manage to get along fine. As both are nocturnal, they both are active at night and when the crayfish gets near him, he just wades away, sometimes frightening the crayfish.

It depends on the type of crayfish. I have a blue P.Clarki in my tank with my tropicals and she does fine. I may add that P. Clarki do seem to be more docile, but will prey on bottom dwellers. I haven't lost any fish and I feed her sinking shrimp pellets and a green bean here and there.
