Hmmm... They are also Brackish not completely Freshwater. They also tend to eat small fish.

Commercial pet stores are bad at keeping animals/ other creatures in the right environment. I have seen crabs in tanks filled completely even when there was a designated fill line on the tank. The poor crabs were fighting to get to the top for air. Most likely the crabs you are looking at are going to need land to crawl up on and also salt because they are probably brackish. Double check the name and check parameters online. Don't ever trust pet store employees or the tags of parameters. You have already made a good decision checking here first.

I think I know the crab you are talking about...Petmart sells the Red Clawed Crab... and as most crabs it does need Brackish water...also it needs a place to get to land as it is NOT fully aquatic. They will grab at and eat any smaller slow moving fish. It needs a tight lid on the tank so that it cannot escape.

My Petsmart locally finally put them in a tank only 1/2 filled with a ramp to a land area. I doubt they put the water brackish though.

Although a really cool, hard to find though, crab that is NOT brackish (however it still needs access to land) is the Vampire Crab...it is purple and maxes out at 2 inches, and has tiny claws!!! They are super cute! I want one, but have to wait because I dont have the proper access for it to land. Petsmart wont carry this crab, but some lfs's can get them in, and the vampire crab is less likely to eat other fish as its claws dont open all the way and are very tiny.
