Couldn;t tell ya. My pH has been 7.8-8 for more than 2 months and the shells are still growing with growth lines and the goldens are still ridged in the new growth.

Gorgeous and congrats on such a lovely specimen.

I have probs with mine. I just can't keep them alive for more than 5-6 mos. at a time. I think I have a calcium deficiency in the water. Their shells just get so weak and start to break apart. Would it be feasible to buy "human" vitamin supplements at the local store, i.e. "Calcium Citrate" (scanning the ingredients for any Copper of course) and then dissolve a few of these in water and pour them in with my snail and Goldfish? Anyone tried this? I'm about 2 hrs. in any direction from a reputable LFS.

I have pretty soft water too. I am planning on starting to feed mine blanched spinach or kale, as both of those are supposedly high in calcium.

Human vitamins are just fine. I just got some for my snails. Calcium Carbonate with vitamin D. 1,200 mg per 2 pills. I put 2 of them in every other day in my 10 gallon tank and only have one snail that shows any signs of erosion on the shell. The others are extremly healthy.

I had been using Calcium Cirtrate powder but couldn't find it in bulk at Wal-Mart so I switched. Both should work fine.
