I doubt a HOB has a high enough flow for a bamboo shrimp. My circulating pump in the 15 gallon tank does 65gph. My shrimp always sits about 5" in front of it.

I have an Aquaclear 90 on a 30 gal and it works. You just have to up the size. :D

I have a aquaclear 70 on a 45ish gallon. But I've also seen Byron post about too much filtration isn't always better, and that my fish are probably already "blown around" too much by that size, so I've put mine on the "lower" setting. Mr. Bamboo shrimp was out last night, picking off the java moss. I squirted some of the powder shrimp food on it, and I hope he got some from it. The other fish also try to grab what they can of that floating powder, and like all food, it creates a feeding frenzy in my tank. I'm hoping if he's made it as many months now as I've had him, he'll survive, but it does bother me that he is now not even filter feeding. He used to do that by holding on to a leaf. Maybe he'll go back to it again, but for now, he is hiding inside the piece of chollo wood I have, which is a cactus and has lots of holes and is basically hallow - cool piece of wood.

When I first got my 2 there were in my 500 gal. They were located DIRECTLY under the output of a 2000gph pump. They loved it. I could find them crawling around and fanning constantly.

Since I have broken that tank down I have put them in a smaller tank but with high flow also.

These are one of those few types of creatures that really should be kept in a species only to fully enjoy them or larger tanks with high flow. That is one of the reasons why such a little shrimp needs a minimum of 30 gals. Not because it need the space, but because the flow rates would create a white water mess in smaller tanks.

Well, he's back out "fanning" and seems good. I threw some of the powder shrimp food in the current, and did grab some. All seems good. I agree they would be wonderful in a species only tank. Perhaps I'll do that if I get another tank. I do like them.
