Assassin snail egg pods can they be moved?

I have a question about assassin snails egg pods. Is their any way you can get the egg pods off the plants and move them to another tank to raise the pods before they hatch?

This is the first time I hear someone wanting to remove assassin snail eggs. You can pick them out just fine but I'd rather you move the plant instead.

I got an answer to my question from an expert on another forum that I belong to. He said that I should not move the egg pods. The egg inside the pod might get destroyed. He said that once they hatch at about 3 to 4 weeks they will go into the gravel or sand and I will not see them for 3 months. After this time they will come out. They will get their little stripes in a couple of weeks after hatching.

Thanks for posting that Eileen. I just bought a couple of assassin snail's from someone on Aquabid and expecting them any day now. That is a great article and answered many of the questions I had about assassin snails.

I can't wait to receive them so they can start working on all of these pesky snails in my community tank. They are driving me crazy!

I find them to be really pretty snails. I was lucky to get some from a friend. I also bought some at a local fish store for 5 for $12. I picked up some more at the tropical fish society that I belong to. They have mini auctions before the meetings and I got a great deal on 6 assassin snails for about $6. I got them because my 6 gal. was overrun by ramshorn snails that hitched a ride on some plants I got. I also have a bunch of tiny spiral pest snails in my 55 gal. tank they are not MTS snails but are all over the place. I'm hoping that the assassin snails keep laying egg pods so that I can move the babies to the 55 gal. tank. I only have 2 assassin snails in that 6 gal. so I was surprised to find egg pods since you need a male/female to get eggs. I don't mind if I get to many as they are easy to rehome.

Let me know how they were shipped to you. Was their a heat pack? Did they come in breather bags or in fish bags with water? I need to know how they were shipped just in case I might need to ship them to someone in the future.

I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I get them. I do know that the person is sending them with a heat pack since it is so cold here in Ohio and we have been having blizzard like conditions here for quite some time now. I also know that she is going to put a couple of other snails in with them in case the assassin snails get hungry during the transit time. The seller made sure to tell me that, just in case the assassin snails didn't eat them so I wouldn't put those snails in my tank.

I should have my Assassin Snails within the next couple of days and like I said before, I can't wait until they get here

I received my Assassin Snails yesterday and they have already gone to work in my tank

I am going to tell you how they were packed in detail. There may be some obvious things that I am listing but I always like to give complete details whenever I can. So here it goes.......

1. The Assassin Snails were placed in a small fish bag with Water and Java Moss along with a couple of ramshorn snails in case they were hungry during the transit. They must have been hungry because all that was left of the Ramshorn Snails were the shells.

2. The Bag was wrapped in newspaper and placed in a styrofoam cup with small holes poked in the cup. The cup had a lid placed on top of it and the lid was taped down to make sure it was secure.

3. The cup was then rolled in Bubble Wrap and placed in a small Box with foam peanuts and some soft pink insulation like material.

4.There was a UniHeat Pack that lasts 72 Hours+ placed inside the box next to the bubble wrapped foam cup.

I hope this helps you if and when you ship your Assassin Snails in the future.

Thank you for the information on the assassin snails being shipped. I hope that your snails are ok. They like food with protein. Bloodworms are a favorite. I bought some earthworm sticks froms kensfish online that they love. I give them these sometimes in tiny broken off peices. If you ever run out of live pest snails they will eat flakes or any high protein foods to survive. They only live a couple of years but if you have a male/female they will lay eggs like mine. The eggs take a long time to hatch and they you don't see the babies for a few months because they bury into the gravel or sand. Well If I ever get some babies and get to many I will keep you in mind and ship you some if you just pay for shipping the snails will be free though. Where do you live anyways? if it is in the U.S.A only as the shipping to mail out of state will be alot.
