Amano Shrimp

I purchased 4 of these a few weeks back. One of the 4 is huge, about twice the size of the others. 3 of them are about 1-1.5 inches long and the big one is like 3-3.25 with lonngg antenna. i am starting to debate whether is an amano. On top of that, i have observed this shrimp with the moon lighting on and its semi aggressive towards any thing that comes close. especially around feeding time. it hides out and it appears that this shrimp tries to grab what passes by. I bought 12 cardinals a week ago and i can only see 9. I am thinking this shrimp is taking them out at night considering they are half the size of the stalking shrimp. Has anyone experienced this or can relate. Does this sound normal for an amano.

It sounds like you might have gotten another type of shrimp in with your amanos. I just bought some ghost shrimp today so I've been researching different kinds of shrimp and someone on a different forum told me to be careful about getting different species or juvenile prawns on accident that can kill some small fish. I researched amano shrimp a little bit before deciding on ghosts and it seems like they shouldn't be eating your cardinals, they like algae and food scraps. Also, I think they only get to about 2" so maybe you got a different species mixed in there.

125 gallon tank:
2 Tiger oscars, 1 Electric blue jack dempsey, 1 Jack dempsey, 2 Bala sharks, 1 Firemouth, 1 Salvini, 1 Texas cichlid, 1 Pleco; All juveniles

29 gallon (in the works):
1 Blue ram, 1 Cockatoo cichlid, 1 Powder blue dwarf gourami, 1 Bolivian Ram, 8 Neon tetras, 4 Corydoras, 2 Bamboo shrimp, some ghost shrimp

i think your right. i got a real good shot of him yesterday. took pics as well. this shrimp has long red claws and a red horn like thingy sticking out from its head. the head has zebra like horizontal stripes. the body has black dots along the side all in a horizontal row unlike the amano's staggered smaller dots. and it doesn't really swim all over like my amano, it walks everywhere. technically the fish store labeled the tank as algae eaters and i ask to take them all considering there were only 4. not really knowing that the other was different. i think i can catch it if i set it up and trap it. taking out my cardinals or messing with my cories is a no no in my tank. thanks for the response.
