welcome to the forum.

i see you have an emperor filter on your reef... these (and any mechanical filtration/filter socks/wrong sand depth and so forth) tend to trap debris and detritus doing more harm then good. sooner then later your going to have excess nutrients building up causing more headache then enjoyment. i suggest removing this filter, using enough live rock, flow, water changes, properly stocking and feeding, a quality skimmer ( read online reviews ) at the minimum, a sump is also very helpful as it adds water volume and a place to hide equipment, a UV sterilizer and carbon/phosban reactors.

looking forward to seeing pictures.

hello and welcome. :)

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

thanks for the tips, i have a few pictures of my tank so far up, you probably posted before i put them up but i have a bout 60 lbs if you count the 15-20 lbs of limestone i put in when I first got it (I think its limestone..) anyways how much rock would you suggest for my tank, another thing I've been wondering does it really go by poundage.. or surface area I have a few small rocks that are very dense but not very big and I have a few nice sized 8-10 inch long rock that weighs less but takes up way more space in the tank, so should i shop by poundage or size? I've been going off of volume of the rock more than density
