WAY new to saltwater :)

Hi everyone,

My name is Kristy and I have had every animal you can think of, but never saltwater fish. It was too expensive for a college kid that was moving every 6 months, but I have wanted a tank for 10 or more years.

My first purchase was a Christmas present to myself last year and I went with the biocube, seeing as it is still an expensive hobby and I was OVERWHELMED with all the choices on filters, lighting, etc. Well I have not killed anything yet and my tank rocks, but I am bored with such a small tank and making the plunge to a 65 gallon this week.... I'm sure I will be asking lots of questions in the near future. I'll post a video of my current tank as soon as I figure it out.

Nice to meet you all!

Hello and welcome to tfk. Some great resources here and very knowledgable people. I am in the process of setting up my first saltwater tank a 72 gallon bowfront. What do you have in your biocube?

hello and welcome

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

I started with about 25 pounds of live rock... let that cycle, got rid of the damsels and got some clean up crew... a couple cleaner shrimp and good handful of different kind of snails. Fish I have slowly built up to two clowns, a firefish, and two small gobies (I think they are gobies, they kind of sit on things and don't move an inch... like they freeze in time). Then I got a bubble anemone for the clowns but they never go in it, and a xenia which all the fish (except the fire fish) like to play in. I think it might be a little too crowded as I have some algae, but the nitrates are just a little high, like in the light to medium orange color.... but my new tank I'm setting up will fix that problem :)
