Wink Stalking Newbie gets account

Howdy do...

This site has been the source for all my A & Q's and I finally decided to get interactive....

After a year of repeatedly killing fish - I discovered the answers to my problems here and finally got set up properly..... My freshwater tank now houses a Platy, a Neon Tetra (yes just ONE), two female Guppies, two bristlenose and a striped Loach - we had a Mystery snail that my LFS SWORE would not eat the fish - who kept eating the fish - I guess no-one told her that, many a Neon dissapeared only to turn of under her. So Slugz (the snail) is now at a friends house in a snail only tank :) I think it may have been a mistaken identity - e-bay will do that to you yeah!?!

I have decided to get started on a Marine aquarium to inhabit my office as I fell in love with a little seahorse - so we have begun the long road to preparation: at this stage we have the tank bought 2nd hand with the powerhead and skimmer - but it'll be another 3 mayby 4 months before I even think about buying the little fella but when we do - you can be sure I'll delay another month LOL just to be sure ;)

Anyways - I'll be stalking about digging up info and learning (hopefully) from the errors of others - and I've learned the motto of fish-keeping, patience is key right?

hello and welcome. :)
any pictures of the tank ? we really love pictures here.

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

Hi Whitewings, welcome to the forum! Glad to have you join us.
Ive heard and read that seahorses are very difficult to sustain in captivity. I don't think that we have any members here who keep them. From where will you be purchasing the little fella??

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...

Thanks for the welcome messages :)

@ Aunt Kymmie: my LFS owner now has 7th generation bred in captivity seahorses he and his wife have a network of people up and down the east coast of Queensland (my state) that are also Horse breeders so no interbreeding and some really pretty ones too.

Even after the issue with my carnivorous Mystery Snail - they are quite particular about what they sell to whom - anyone can walk in a buy a gold fish but they have made a point on knowing that I will be getting the right stuff to sustain the right environment for my Horsie when it comes time to bring him home :) But like I said - I'm quite happy to wait 3 even 4 months to make sure the tank is perfect before putting him in :) And it will give me time to save for a companion as well - at $165 AUD each they arent cheap LOL

Hi and welcome to the forum.

A seahorse tank would be soooooooo cool. I can't wait to see pics.

Good luck!

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.
