Re-introducing myself :)

Wow, it's been a while!! So long in fact, that many of you are probably too new here to remember me . Anyway, I'm back and I hope to be a little more active now. For those of you who do remember me, let me tell you the knew developments.

First for my tanks. I only have 3 now...used to have 5 counting a QT tank which I still have but is not set up. The major thing is that I sold my largest tank, which was a 29 gallon planted community...aka my disaster tank! I've learned a lot from all of my experiences and during that time I've discovered what I really want out of this hobby...not to mention the amount of time that I have to spend on it. So now I don't have any real plants (too much work and seemed to cause problems for me) and am only keeping bettas because they are my real passion.

Right now I have a 5.5 gallon tank with my rescue betta, a blue veiltail named Professor Lupin, a divided 15 gallon with my male veiltail Victor and my cute little female Edelweiss, and a 10 gallon with my multicolored HM named Cassanova. I think that those who remember me probably already know that my first betta Flame died a while ago, but at the beginning of the summer I lost my spunky little girl Diva to an untreatable case of popeye that I think was due to the same incident concerning some leeching toxins from a pot that almost claimed my Cassanova as well.

I have about a million other stories to tell, but I think it would bore anyone who doesn't know me. So really, I'd like to meet those who are new here and re-introduce myself to anyone who knew me. This really is a great board that I would like to be a part of again.

I will post pics of my current setups tonight after they get their weekly cleaning ;-). Hope to talk to you all soon!

Hi Kim,

Nice to meet you :) I'm actually on my way to the fish store to get some dwarf froggies for my 5.0 gallon betta tank. I have a 45 gal. hex as well with mostly tetras and barbs. I'm new to the hobby since Christmas and after some nightmare cycling problems, I now have a happy healthy cupla tanks.

My betta is a gorgeous blue veiltail too. Wish I could rescue them all from the "death cups" but that's not very rational thinking. I'm not done yet tho. I'll get at least two more in the near future.

Looking forward to your posts.

Welcome back Kim, Perhaps you can help the many Betta enthusiasts realize the benefit of larger tanks such as yours for proper care and health of these fish.
P.S. I quit losing julii corys after lowering the temp in my tank housing them. Forgive me if I have confused who it was I once had discussion with in regards to cory's.

Nice to see you all again!

Dramaqueen: It seems you have surpassed my betta count once again! I'm looking foward to seeing some pics :)

Romad: Nice to meet you, and I totally agree...I wish that I could rescue all the bettas from the cups too! Happy betta keeping!

1077: I think it was me...nice to talk again. Oh yeah, and I am certainly an advocate for larger betta tanks...I'll get those pictures up today I promise!

And to all the other senior members; I look foward to learning new things from those more experienced in this hobby all the time ;)

Welcome back! I had been wondering where you'd been and am glad to hear Prof. Lupin is still kickin it!
Sorry to hear the planted tank didn't work out. At the time of your exit off line it was looking so good. Looking forward to seeing the new pics. Once again, WELCOME BACK!! :-D

Here are the pictures as promised. Sadly the tanks look pretty crummy right now because when I pulled all the plants from the 15 gal I had to make 2 tanks worth of silk plants stretch into 3 tanks worth.

Uploading my pictures sure had me reminiscing about all the different things I've tried with aquariums. I sure wish the live plants had worked out....they always looked so beautiful; that is before they got all full of algae and started to die :-(. Of course, now that I only have silk I can have more bettas because it takes less time and money for maintenance :-D. And my little Diva and Flame, you will be missed. Oh well, they say you learn more from your mistakes than your sucesses and I definitely have learned a lot!

So here are the tanks as of now. I plan to slowly redecorate soon...anyone have any ideas of a good color/size gravel for the 15 gal? I need to get rid of the sand because it's full of laterite from the plant days and it grows algae terribly and is a pain to clean. I'm going for the same light and sunny look but I want it to be a different color than my other gravel.

Fish pics to come later...it was too late and they just looked like dark blobs .

Thanks everyone :)

Poor Diva got a horrible case of popeye. I tried to treat her, but it wouldn't respond to anything. I had hoped that maybe only one eye was affected and it would fall out and she would live, but it spread to the other eye and she died right as I was contemplating putting her down because she was in pain. I buried her next to Flame :(

As for the tanks, like I said they are in the process of renovation. I need to replace the sand in the 15 gallon, and I am looking into some nice driftwood and more silk plants for them all. I did replace the black background in the 5.5 gallon with a blue one today because it was just too dark in there. The light is only 8 watts, and I couldn't see Prof. Lupin's color at all in most parts of the tank.

The worst thing is that I am painting/redecorating my bedroom and I have a shelving unit full of empty shelves. No kidding....there's nothing to put in them *except for more betta tanks* shhh! I didn't say that seriously...what am I crazy! I'm already going to be really busy with school, a possible job, and sports!
