We have a 29 gallon aquarium with one occupant, a 10", 20+ year old Pleco. We feed her one Hikari algae tablet a day, which seemed to be fine for years, but recently, she has gained a lot of weight. Should we feed a 1/2 tablet, or are there other suggestions? Thanks!

I don't think the fish has gotten fat, but rather is bloated. I'm not experienced with dealing with bloat, but that's definitely the direction you should be looking.

I agree with jaysee. The second I saw the picture I thought she's sick or really constipated. That's not a normal shape for a pleco and they don't really get "fat" in the belly like that. She may have a bacterial infection, but it could be other things too, like parasites/worms. I would look around online and maybe other areas of this site to find out what to do. If I find out any good info I'll let you know.

We followed all of the directions and treated her with bacterial as well as parasite medication. I am happy to report the Pleco is better. Her stomach is greatly reduced, and she is back on the glass looking healthy again. Thanks for everyone's help and advice!
