Newbie here!

So I have been doing freshwater tanks for over 20 years and have decided to change to saltwater. I have setup a 55g saltwater aquarium that currently has 3 to 4 inches of sand bed. Water temp is at 74f degrees I am running 2 powerheads and an Odyssea Protein Skimmer on the back. The tank has been going for 1 week so far and tomorrow I will be adding in some live rock to help the cycle. My goal is to eventually set up a reef one day.

Hi, and welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping forum. Nice to have you with us.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.
