I use to be an avid reptile keeper as well as did reptile resucue and rehab for many years. I had to give up the hobby a few years but would love to get into fish. I have a 55 gallon and a stand so far, I have been trying to research what the best supplies would be to get this take going. I plan on getting Cichlids. My mom use to keep them when I was a kid but other then simple fish I have not had a tank of my own. Hopefully I can learn everything I need to learn to get started in this hobby.

honestly, since Cichlids are extremly hardy, you really only need gravel, light, and a filter. Maybe a thermometer if your room gets cold, but i never use one, except for my saltwater, just cause im paranoid about it.

MAKE SURE YOU NEVER MIX SOUTH AMERICAN WITH AFRICAN!!!! keep the same continent fish in 1 tank, or else it will be a Fishy Iraq War.... Also make sure they are the same size when you get them, and any cichlid thats getting bullied too much, remove it

Not all of them are hardy, you NEED a thermometer, tank needs to stay around 78F, any wild swing can kill the fish.

NOT TRUE, some species of South American can be kept with Africans, size does not matter, it is what fish you get, that will determine this. Take for example, you can add a fully grown Nimbochromis Venustus to a tank with juvenile peacocks, you cannot though add fry to a tank with adults.
