New reef person.

Hello from Central Texas. Whitney to be precise. Just acquired a 40 gallon reef that was operational, but neglected. Added a protein skimmer/refurium to it. Increased the filtration. Now in the process of it getting established after moving it. It has five fish including a maroon clown and a Sea Anemone. Needs fresh live rock and corals added in the future. My wife has taken to it and does the light management and feeding.

Welcome to TFK, jr. Glad to have you join us. Do you have any pics of your tank that you can share?

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...

Not yet. It's being "improved". Soon though. Thanks for the welcome.

what kind of skimmer and "other filtration" did you go with?
what kind of lights? no offense but anemones are not an easy task, especially for a new saltwater fish keeper. have you tested the water parameters? if so, where are your alk, calcium and mag levels?
adding un-established rock now in large quantities may cause a tank crash, just FYI.
anyways welcome to the forum. please post pictures when you can, id like to see the tank, i love 40 breeders.

I added a Castle 1000 canister filter. It had a bio-wheel I wouldn't use on a 20 gallon fresh. I added a cpr protein skimmer/refurium. Aquafluge ps2. I am not that pleased with it. Micro bubbles. Seems to be improving. One Power head. Lights were fine. Unit was over grown with red slime algae. Got that under control. Everybody made it thru the move. Sea Anemone is eight inches across with a Maroon clown. Four other guys and a star fish. Going to do nothing for now. Let it run. Water tested by the Tropical Fish Store in Waco. It's fine. In time I will add a bit of rock. Corals. No hurry. I have been keeping fish (freshwater) for thirty years. This is my second saltwater reef. Other one was caught short in a job change.

Thanks for the note.

hello and welcome. :)

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.
