new to the hobbie.

Hello, my name is Derek and I am new to the hobby of fish keeping. I currently work at a PETCO and they are wanting to make me a secondary aquatics specialist because I know a few things about fish despite never actually owning a tank (until around 2 weeks ago.)

I'm happy to say that my 10 gallon tank that I set up is doing pretty good. The cycling is kind of stressing me out a bit but my fish are doing good and don't appear to be stressed.

I hope to learn from this forum about proper fish care and be able to spread some of the knowledge that I obtain to people whom I interact with at work.

there is oodles of information here, and great people to interact with,
you have a job i would love to do.

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

Hi Derek, welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
