New here

Hey, I recently decided to get back in to the old hobby of aquariums I had a while ago! To start it off I got myself a 55 Gallon tank. I found this forum and thought it would be a great place for help and discussion.

I haven't gotten any fish yet since my tank is still getting into the correct temperature. But I'm really hoping to get some soon enough!

Hi and welcome to the forum!! =D Since it's a newly set up tank, it'srequired that you cycle it first before you add any fish in it. We reconmend doing a fishless cycle. Heres an article about it:

Oh thanks! I Should of read about that
Anyhow can I ask questions about that here? I just want to know if I use the "Shrimp Method" do I have to replace all the water? I don't get why you would have to if your trying to get a source of ammonia.

Welcome! There are actually several ways to cycle. I use a seeding method that takes a quarter the time and allows me to stock within days instead of weeks. It's just a matter of preference.

I hope you enjoy the forum, I've found it SUPER useful and friendly. That and they have sooo many neat ideas.

hello and welcome.

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.
