Okay, quick update. I am 5 1/2 weeks into my cycle. Ammonia has dropped drastically the last few days. Been at 0 ppm for 2 days now. The nitrates have been back and forth between 20 and 40 ppm but the nitrites are still between 1 and 3 ppm...About how long does it take for those nitrites to come back down. According to my test strips (also used API for testing) 1-3 ppm are the "cautious" section. thanks guys and gals :)

The small size of the tank is going to limit your choice of fish fairly tightly. Six gallons is not a lot of room for most of the shoaling fish which typically do best in numbers of 10+
