Question New To Forum

Hello everyone,
I got a Koi has a birthday gift today. I have no clues about these fish. I'm an Angel fish person. I have goldfish in my garden pond in the warmer months. Do I care for the Koi in the same way? All help would be welcome. 8)
Merry Christmas

Hello, and welcome to FishForum!

Koi have similar care requirements to goldfish, but are much, much bigger fish. As they can grow to three feet in length, koi should be housed in a tank or pond of at least 1,000 gallons.

How quickly do they grow?
I have a garden pond that's a 4x6 and 3 foot deep. Is that going to be big enough for a little while. The Koi is still small.

Hello!
Glad you already have the pond! Its recommended to have a pond 6 ft deep for koi, but Im sure he will be fine for a while! They are such cute fish! wish I had a spot in my yard for a pond! May want to get him a friend. When I see them restocking their Koi at petsmart, the koi look all excited about their new tank mates! Good luck to you!!
