Greetings fish community! I have been fishkeeping for a couple years now, but I'm finally getting really serious about it. I have a couple questions, first off: Is there a "fish encyclepedia" somehwere so I can categorize my fish? And secondly, can someone help me fill out the "Tank" thing?

Yay joining a forum! Glad to meet you all 8)

Welcome to TFK!

Up at the top of the page you'll notice a link to our Fish Profiles. We've got profiles for freshwater, brackish and saltwater fish along with some plants and other creatures. You can sort by either scientific names or common names to find your fish. Members can make contributions by editing fish profiles or adding new information and pictures and can submit profiles for fish we don't have in the database yet. Hope that helps!

What sort of trouble are you having with setting up your Aquarium Log?

What sort of trouble are you having with setting up your Aquarium Log?
I just don't know how to do it. Filtrations? Temperature? Substrate? I don't know what kind of jargon I should be using to answer it with, I just bought an aquarium to fulfill my life-long dream, and recently I found out I am doing a lot of things the wrong way (hence why I'm here!). Any sort of beginner help/advice would be REALLY appreciated. =]

Hmm, well let me help you out with the fields:

Name: You can name the tank anything you want.
The drop-downs for Water Type are pretty straightforward.
Size: the size of your tank in gallons
Substrate: This is the stuff on the floor of your tank. Regular aquarium gravel is the most common in freshwater tanks but lots of people use those other options, too.
Inhabitants: What sorts of fish and other creatures are living in the tank.
Filtration: What kind of filter(s) do you have on the tank? You can list the model or just say something like "power filter" or "canister filter" if you want to.
Lighting: What kind of lights are on the tank? Incandescent bulbs? Fluorescent tubes? What kind of bulbs? You don't have to be specific if you don't really know but for reef tanks and planted freshwater tanks the lighting makes a big difference.
Temperature: What kind of heaters or chillers do you have for the tank? You can list models or just wattages.
Decor: What kinds of decorations do you have in the tank? Fake plants? Real plants? Driftwood, rocks, ornaments, etc. Do you have a background on the tank?
Accessories: You can list any other equipment you might have for the tank, such as a UV sterilizer or something like that. I also use this field just for general information about the tank.
Food: What do you feed the fish that live in this tank?

If you have any questions about the jargon or about your tank specifically, feel free to ask!
