tank is full of movement now!!just heard that my supplier has gotten a few pearl danios in.....hhhhmmmmmmmm??should i,shouldn't i??tanks close to it's limit of fish (not including the ram (he was planned a while ago).......but other than that i'm loving it....may have to go back to my trickle filter though....as this tank has a slightly higher capacity and i'm not sure this pump is doing enough to oxygenate the water......i''ll give it a couple of days i think...

first fatality 2day.....one of my albinos was found wedged between one of my plastic plants and the substrate (looks like he couldn't move his gills once trapped).......live and learn..have adjusted the tank plants so there is swimming room around the base!!

the albino danios aren't handling the water conditions too well......are albinos a little bit more sensitive than standard danios???never had dramas with them before....maybe just a weak batch......time will tell..

can only go by what i've learnt at high school and reading boring yet insightful books....albino's just lack a colour pigment gene (??)...but perhaps it also weakens them in some way...i know when my lights on they shy away but when i turn it off they come out from there hidey hole....but i kinda need the light on...damned if you do damned if you don't...and they don't like a swift flowing current either.....they seem to struggle in it, whereas the standard danios race through it......i'm a little stumped.....but they seem ok....down to 2 albinos now.....(left my hood at an angle and one of them jumped on to it,while i was.....busy (when nature calls u gotta answer!!)........came back and the little fella was laying there.....lifeless!!!!but apart from that fish tank is going really well....definitely gonna keep it as a predominantly danio tank....they are a fun little fish to watch with their little 'antics'........mind of a danio must be like 'i'm gonnna get you,i'm gonna get you,i'm gonna.......wait there's another one like you......i'm gonna get him,i'm gonna get him......wait there's somebody else'........and so on,and so on!!!as for my bristlenose....he keeps to himself most of the time..until the lights go out.....then he's just like.....'damn look at all this gunk....i'd better get my clean on!!' (i can see him in the dimness my heater light shows)...2nd best tank i've had (but it's almost at number 1!!!)

they are fine today...eating well, and all chasing each other,so all good.
i like danios too, fast fun little fish..i remember i had them the very first
time i started a tank.....they all perished along with loads more,
as i didn't know about the cycle until it was too late...the ammonia burn
as i later came to understand must have been horrid !

gotta be honest for a second here..
when i first thought about starting another tank (previous version of current tank'the shabby one'),i never considered danios as anything more than a 'cycler fish'..yes i've had them in most of my other tanks ..but 2-3 at the most.
your advice has been helpful as well as the reference material (spent a good few hours there...shortlisting!!) on this forum...
i wasn't even certain about my substrate combination....but looking at my tank now..i'm happy with the way it has turned out.....yes they are easy fish to keep (something that is always first and foremost in my mind (i'm away a few weeks of the year with paintball duties) as it doesn't take much for my housemate or even my daughter to feed them...my supplier has been brilliant, offering advice when needed, or just keeping my daughter enthralled with information about the fish about the shop..it's good to have somebody that is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about 'all things aquarium related'...other stores i've walked into i've known more than the employees do....not here...and i think my tank is the better for taking the chance on this new store.......
danios were not my first choice (as u can see from the start of this thread)...my supplier listened to all that i had to say (not many do!!) and actually talked me through the majority of his stock..pros/cons of certain fish.....and left me alone to absorb it all (once again..alot of previous stores...i've felt 'rushed')...but in the end the danios won me over...got 3 types in there at the moment (leopard, zebra, albino)and different varietys (standard and longfin)...hopefully my supplier still has a few pearl danios left (i've also asked him to keep an eye out for the very rare 'celestial danio....he didn't know about this one!!)....and a little ram to finish it all off...and maybe a floating plant (for the albinos to hide under when my light gets turned on)
once again it has been an incredible experience to start from scratch (i was thinking about this for the last 6 months before my very first post on here)...but i'll still be on here a few times a week to keep u guys/gals updated..maybe even a few more pics once all the fish are in there!! for now i bid you a goodnight/good morning!!

well the final additions went in today (3 pearl danios and a ram)....few little fiddly bits to go in the tank....but the overall result will be worth a little more patience on my part......the new additions are settling in nicely!!!never knew how pretty the pearls were..and under the right light i think will 'shine' in my tank!!also found my daughters xmas present too!!she's gonna get a starter set-up for a betta fish...and aussie jj...cherry shrimp will go into my tank....probably just before xmas!!!
