Hello! I'm new here.

I'm researching and contemplating how to go about assembling a tank for myself in the near future.
My brother and I had tropical fish when we were young, since then I've cared for a couple bowl-fish betas.

I've always envisioned getting a tank together, with specific preferences around lighting and accessories. I've also recently discovered, and have become interested in, the art of aquascaping--which I find is beautiful & appealing. But I need to learn more about it in order to weigh it as an option.

So haaayyy.

Hi and welcome to the forum

Yeah there are way more options for EVERYTHING now vs 20 years ago, so you can find a niche you like and go nuts :)

I think the best way to go is to buy the largest tank that you can fit/afford. The larger the tank the more options you have.

Keeping fish and growing aquatic plants are two different skill sets, so if your goal is to create an underwater masterpiece then I would focus on the plant side of things. Such a tank will limit your stock to fish that don't require much knowledge or experience to keep. If your goal is to keep some monster fish, then I would focus on the fish side of it since most such fish won't allow for much greenery, inside the tank. And of course the entire hobby lies somewhere inbetween :)
