HI there

Hello all.

I inherited a tank/ fish and all the goodies from a friend a year and a half ago, and have enjoyed it. I believe it is a 55g tank.

The long and short of it is....I bought a snail.....thinking it would help me maintain tank cleanliness..........lord almighty, I did not realize the little bugger would breed like fleas, virtually taking over my tank. Did one major tank overhaul, but they came back.

I am now doing overhaul #2 is hope I can eradicate the problem once and for all. For now all my fish are in a different tany, I cleaned the filer out good, and am using new sponges in the filter, tossing out any prior used stuff in case they contain eggs for the next gen. of snails

I have the plants isolated and intend to give them a 20/1 part bleach bath, then de-chlorinate.

I have bleached the tank itself. Now will de-chlorinate.

Yes, I am boiling the rocks.......and nothing has blown up, don't worry..........

I will put it all back together soon, but wondered if you all had any extra advise as far as conquering my snail issue. I will never get the little buggers again...so help me!!!

Welcome to TFK! Have you tried dropping in some veggie food in the evening? Usually they will be all over it by morning and then you remove the veggie, snails and all. Spinach, cucumber, lettuce, usually that works. Spinach or lettuce can be put in a seaweed clip, with cucumber you can stick with a fork so it stays on the bottom.

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...

hello and welcome.
good luck for tank overhall #2

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.
