Hi From the Prairies!

Hi!!!

I'm a bit of an animal fanatic! Have, or have had, just about all of the common pets.

I've also had a 25 gallon aquarium up and running for some 25 years...sometimes housing an easy-care tropical community...or a couple of goldfish...

At the moment the 25 gallon tank is set up for the easy-care tropicals, and I have two goldfish enjoying the basement family room...it's nice and cold downstairs and they're enjoying it much more than when I had them upstairs...

I have two questions for the pros though!

1. Last Thursday I caved and bought 4 bettas to add to the community tank. One male and three females. Everyone in the tank is getting along fine...no signs of any aggression. However, one female has some fungus on her tail, so I've put her in a little isolation tank within the big tank...

Should I medicate her myself, or take her back? How well/easily do they treat? She's otherwise active, alert and eating.

2. I'd FINALLY like to get a larger tank...I was thinking a 55 gallon pentagon for an unused, well-situated corner in our dining room. However, I can't find any info. on the pros and cons of corner aquariums...I was hoping you'd be able to help!

Looking forward to meeting you and hearing your replies! Thanks :D

nice, how big is your goldfish aquarium? You can buy some Primafix at your fish store that treats fungus on your betta, Theres nothing wrong with a corner aquarium.

He said it was 25 gallon.

Welcome to this great community!!!!! :D

the only thing i can think of is that with a pentagon tank is that the fish won't have much to swim in because, the pentagon tanks are taller and not as long as normal aquariums, where as the fish need length more than they need height....

Hope this helps! :D

Thanks for the quick reply! :D

I'll get some PrimaFix tomorrow! Should I treat just her, or the entire tank, since she was in it for a couple of days? It's very lightly salted - which should help.

Actually...I had the remaining goldfish (fantail) in the 25 gallon tank...but when I moved him downstairs, I put him in my 10 gallon spare tank. At the time I honestly thought he wouldn't make it He wasn't growing at all and he was swimming upside down most of the time...

Now it's over two years later and he's doing very well ! However he appeared a bit lonely...so I bought him a friend. He's now much happier, at least that's my take on it...but although the 2nd fish is still quite small...I need to move them both to a bigger tank by the time summer rolls around...

I was hoping to set up the 55 gallon for the tropical community fish, and move the two goldfish into the 25 gallon tank...

yes the goldfish would love the extra space. Do you have any shrimp or other inverts in your tropical tank?

yes shrimp will be fine, i asked you the invertebrate question since inverts are very sensitive to medications. Since there are none in there you can treat your dieseased fish in the main tank.
