i was going over a list of fish i had in another thread and thought id add it to this. also i got some pics but need to download them.

fruit tetra:

6ea - blue (1 died)

5ea - pink

2ea - yellow

6 ea - Serpae Tetra

1 ea - albino catfish

1 ea - Emerald Catfish

2 ea - African Butterfly Fish

5 ea - live plants - not sure - 3 types...i think they said 2 were sword leaf?

2 ea - snails (about 1-1 1/4 inch dia)

also got:

1 ea - green fruit tetra

1 ea - some kind of spotted catfish (kinda short & stubby at first but now its huge!)

7ea - Neon Tetra (3 died)

3 ea - tetra (looks like neon except clear w/ orange stripe) dont know the name of it.

3 ea - algae eaters

7 ea - some kind of top water brightly colored fish about an 1 1/4" long. looked kinda like guppies but without the big tails. they were in 3 colors, bright green, bright yellow & bright orange.

they had subtle stripes running the full length. no one could tell me what they were. like i said they never ventured down in the tank...just schooled around at the top. anyone know what they are?

Cant wait to see pictures....

However, your tank is overstocked now, by quite a bit it would seem. Also I would encourage you to not buy fruit tetras anymore, I'm not certain if you've seen some of the other recent threads about dyed fish but the process is cruel and many(probably most fish) dont survive it. If that doesn't deter you then how about the fact that it lowers the immune system of the fish making them susceptible to diseases that can then be spread to all your other fish.

I'm also concerned about your algae eaters. Most likely they are either plecos, which will get too big for your tank, or they are chinese algae eaters, which are not from china and only eat algae when very young. As they mature they get quite aggresive and they too will push your tank capacity by themselves as they can grow to nearly a foot long.

^ thx for the help. i saw your post i my other thread....here it is for those who are curious:

help - will fins grow back

if i would have known about the fruit tetra i wouldnt have bought them. like i said before i had never seen them before...been about 7-8 yrs since i had a tank (10gal). the fish i knew were what ever wal-mart carried cause there were no pet shops in the area.

i am disapointed this local shop carries them....youd think they would have know better since theyve been around for many years.

as for the population....i should have joined the site before i started the tank. also the pet shop didnt give me any guidelines. i have a 55 gal. without the 2 snails i had 45 fish to begin with. after that several died including the 7 unknown top dwellers im down to 33.

non have died the last couple weeks so im happy. most of those died within 3-5 days due to fin nipping in the first wk or two.

Welcome fellow Texan!!

What part of Texas???

For those curious, piranhas are illegal to buy sell or own in the state of Texas. Just FYI, lol. :)
