Smile Hi! New here...

Hi! I am new here, obviously! I recently acquired a 50 gallon tank and am looking forward to getting it set-up. I am wanting to have mostly angelfish and have a planted aquarium. I am open to any hints and suggestions. I am building this from the ground up, so anything goes. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Hello and welcome to TFK With a 50 gallon aquarium you will be able to keep a group of 5 angels . If you have not already I would recommend picking up a liquid test kit like the one that API makes. Their Master test kit includes everything that you will need for testing your water. I would also suggest testing your tap water to see if there is any ammonia, nitrites or nitrates already in the water. This will help you in deciding what type of water conditioner to use. If you do not know the gh, general hardness, and the kh, the buffering capacity, of your water I would suggest checking that out. Angel fish need soft acidic water, especially if they are wild caught. If you have any questions feel free to ask. There is alot of helpful information here to help you get started on the right track, in the freshwater articles there is an article about the nitrogen cycle, and in the plants section there is a 4 part series on planted aquariums that would be worth reading if you have not already.

My concern with Angelfish is that once 2 pair up they can become aggresive. Also Angelfish are sensitive and dont often survive in a new tank.

Erm.. and Welcome to the forums :) Sorry I can be a bit antisocial sometimes.
