Talking Hey!! New Fish Hobbyist Here ready to pick some minds!!!

I have been lucky enough to become the owner of a 47.5 Gallon Tank. I have 2 gouramis, an angel fish, 3 Electric Yellow Juvenile cichlids, and a Juvenile Blue Peacoick cichlid. There is peace across the land for now, but if my research is correct possibly my Gouramis are in danger and the Angel i suppose but for now there hasn't even been any conflicts (other than my angel killing 2 other angel fish....the jerk.... love him though) then last but not least I have my toothnose Pleco who ceases to exists lol. I work at a privately owned pet store and my fish "mentor" told me that the 2 first yellows I bought were male, to bring one back and trade it for 2 other female juvenile cichlids, she suggested 2 J-yellows but i grabbed the Peacock because i read their temperaments are around the same and they come from lake malawi, she told me to grab the one cichlid that was cowering in the corner but there isn't any stress so i think I am going to keep them all and buy a 20 Gallon tank to house one if something goes awry. Thank you for taking the time to read my first blog!

Hi there Lisa,

A warm welcome to the forum We're glad you joined us and hope you like it here.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

hello and welcome :)

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

Hello Lisa, and welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping forum.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
