That's probably what I would do. They're good filters and really inexpensive for how much they can get done.

Welcome to the forum

For the filtration, I think the tank is simply underfiltered. From what I've been taught, you should figure a filter does about 1/2 of what the box says.

Plus, Koi are very "dirty" fish (I kinda know... I'm a goldfish junky!).

What we use on our 75g aquariums (one for mbuna, one for fancy goldfish) are two Penguin 350B's each (these are similar to your HOB) and one Rena XP3 on each -- so each has two large HOB's and one decent sized canister. I also do large water changes on the tanks (Goldies 2x a week, Mbuna 1x a week).

when you set up a new tank,hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor,that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

big problem

hello ive had my 75 gallon bowfront tank running for about 4 months now and i am very dissapointed the water is incredibly dirty its horrid how the water gets so dirty.
i also have a ten gallon which i moved the fish into and really the water is perfectly clear and the filter isnt even suitable i dont understand why this keeps happening to my tank please help its like a brownish color i thought since maybe the gravel is brown thats why and would it be the backround its strait black please helpppp i also got a additional filter
