Smile hey

hello i'm Sinead, new to fish keeping i recently got a 155litre tank for my birthday..and so far we've got
3 upside down catfish
1 black ghost knife fish
2 black lyre tail mollies
1 black molly
5 neon tetras
and i think 3 shrimp (not too sure what kind!)

so far so good, apart from the hiccup we had with a pair of african clawed frogs! they were sold as dwarf frogs! they ended up eating 5 of our neon tetras and killed our male betta :( so this morning they were brought back to the shop. all our fishes seem happy and healthy, now the remaining 5 tetra seem a lot more relaxed!!
i've been getting all my information from here so i thought it was about time i joined :)

Welcome to the Forum!!! We're glad you found us! How long has your tank been running? We want to help you be successful with your new tank, so don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have. Are you testing your tank regularly? Fully cycled?

I'm sorry, I SO do not want to jump all over you for your stocking list. Please take a minute to read up about your Black Ghost Knife. It is going to need a much bigger tank! Just an fyi.

hey :) thanks for replying!! the tanks been running for 3 weeks i've been testing the water every 2 days, everything seems ok..there was a little spike in ammonia on my last test but i think thats from the frogs killing all the tetras? the fish shop told me not to worry..? I didnt read anything about the ghost knife fish before we bought him,(dumb move, but i loved him straight away haha) at the moment he's only small (4cm) so i've been trying to find out as much as i can about him and we're gonna be upgrading our tank when he gets bigger, all the fish are pretty small at the moment. and please, any advice you have i'm all ears! i am a total newbie and would really appreciate it :)

Knifefish are extraordinary animals. They use electric fields to navigate and find food. But... you will need at least 90 gallons (~360 liters) to keep him as an adult. And, he will eat all your otherfish. Best wishes to you and your fish!

hello and welcome aboard, hope you'll be very happy
here with us.

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

welcome to TFK.... sometimes the best lessons in life come from the mistakes we make... and we ALL make them... sorry for your loss... a little study before stocking can go a long way to the sucess of our water borne friends..

Hello and welcome to the forum

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.
