Hello There

Hi, new to the forum.

I'm starting out a new 29G FW tank. I had a 55G FW about 10 years ago. It had a bunch of angels and a pleco that lived a long time. When they started dying was about the same time my kids were being born. Needless to say, the priorities shifted. But throughout that whole time between then and now, I've always regretted not having a fish tank. It was pure coincidence that I happen to stop at a LFS just to admire the fishes when there it was, a 29G with a starter kit for sale and they were giving the stand for free! So for less than 200 bucks I have a nice tank.

So here I am. I have a dead shrimp in the tank, a Marineland canister filter and week 1 of cycling the tank. I thought about live plants but decided against it. I used play sand as a substrate and only have one decoration for now. I have not decided on what fish is going to live in it. I will have my kids decide that I guess.

I'm not going to post much, as I'm really new to this, again. But am already learning a lot from the resident experts on this forum. And for that, a big thanks.

I have attached a picture of what my tank looks like at the moment, and the tank is well guarded . Ignore the power strip. I need to add an outlet, and that will be done soon. I will post more as I complete cycling and stocking the tank.

Don't know yet. Still pretty far away from that decision. The tank hadn't started cycling. ammonia is 0.25, nitrite and nitrate still reading 0. May need to add a bigger shrimp. I'm also waiting for Dr. Tim's One and Only, on its way from Drs Foster and Smith.

My PH reading is 7.6 or higher, I'm guessing anything that can tolerate that.

Tank cycling done and populated

So. I finally finished cycling and I have slowly added the fish. There are 10 Zebra Danios, 2 Bandit Cory, 1 Julii Cory and 2 Dojo Loach. That's about all I am having there.

All the plants with the exception of the floating water sprite are artificial. I have a Marineland C-220 canister filter and that's about it. I like the tank a lot, so does my wife and kids.
