Hi! Some of you have already helped me out but I just found this part of the forum. I have had my fish for 3 years now. I had lost intrest in fish for a year or two and then one day(monday lol) i was at my dentist and it was mynew dentist and they had a BE-UTIFUl tank pf salt water fish. They had clown fish and the Dra fish from finding nemo and two yellow fish one with a muth that looked like a cartoon kiss thing. That waswhen i realized why i got bored of my fish...BECAUSE THEY WERE DULL!!! so i sent out on a journey after my guitar lesson and i wanted to set up a betta fish tank...and so i did...I also got 2 more sebra danios after i found out they were a schooling fish. I love my tanks and blew close to all my cash(I am 14) and now i only have like probably 40 bucks left(i still have all 100 something but i need to give my mom some since i split the cost with her...hopefully she will forget). i have turned 1/3 of my aquarium for my tropical fish into river bed and under that is a thin layer of rainbow gravel and i am going to cmplete this maybe this weekend...went against wise advice and kept my fish in and poop from years of not cleaning flew every which way and i have no filter!!! it broke a few weeks back!!! cant afford a new one but i don't need one yet it settles quick i just need to find my stuff to clean the poop with I have a rising suspicion that my mom threw them away. and i want more pals for my betta fish like do i need a filter or heater? i was going to get a heater but couldn't find a small enough one for my tank. So i have 7 swordtails all that i have breed(they have an increadebly LOW survival rate) and they are not colorful like there parents(anyone know why?) but they look like neon swordtails which is cool. What got me into fish was an expiriment in 6th grade with feeder guppies so i got a 10 gallon tank(got hermit crabs first) and got a few guppies and some swordtails. I want to save up and start another aquarium in my basement(it is nice but might get renivated so i dont know) but i had a cool idea and that is to get a 20 or mor gallon stand burrow thing for a tank and start another tank of colorful fish in my living room because my mom doesnt like the fireplace in the house(we just bought) and it would cover it up. If you have read all of this you must love fish!

Welcome to the forum!

Being on a forum like this and getting exposure to all sorts of other fishkeepers and their tanks will not only give you some help when it comes to taking care of the fish you've got, it will also likely give you inspiration to set up dozens of new fish tanks.

Hi pretzelsz and welcome.

I'm a little confused as to what size tank your betta is in or will be in. And being a fellow New Englander, I can tell you that you will def. need a heater. I have 6 bettas and one of them is temporarily in a 1.5 gallon tank with a 25w heater. As long as you get a heater that you can adjust the temperature on, you can have one even in a small tank.
