Hello from Melbourne Australia

Hello Everyone,

I have only just discovered this forum and have only in the past 3 months had my Aquarium.

I am not too sure of the correct terms/names for the fish I have in my tank so I will put them up as I know them.

I have a 240ltr 4ft tank with external bio filter.

At the moment I have one neon tetra, 2 Pleco's, 2 Golden Catfish, 6 molly's and what started out as 5 platy's, has now turned into 34 at last count! They love to breed. I also have one adult snail and it's 20 or so offspring.

I did have 2 clown loaches, 2 pakistani loaches, 10 neon tetras, 5 harlequins, 2 glass catfish and 2 eels until recently, but my tank was infected with ICK. Not sure how I obtained it but it wiped out my pair of breeding plecos as well. Within a week I lost more than half of my fish

I am really love having my fish and my tank. I hope to learn a lot from these forums.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to being able to contribute to discussions in the near future

Hello and welcome Colleen.

Sorry to hear about your fish loss :(

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

hello and warm welcome to you,
sorry you lost some of your fish to ICH.
do you have any pictures of your tank,we do love them here, and if you
have any other pets,we love to share them too.

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

Indeed, a hearty welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping.

This is a super place for good advice form a lot of very knowledgeable aquarists who have made the mistakes and learned from them.

Happy fish-keeping.

The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. [unknown source]

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
