Hello from Maryland
I grew up in a household with fifteen 20 gallon aquariums. My job was to occasionally feed the fish and change the filter material. When I left the house to get married, I had no intention of maintaining an aquarium again. One day my daughter brought home 4 goldfish from school. They were giving them away because Summer break was approaching and they wanted to make sure the fish were taken care of. My daughter volunteered to take them (without asking us first) so we made a mad scramble to get a container to hold them. Fortunately, a girl I worked with said she had a 10 gallon aquarium, which she offered to donate to the cause.
We added two additional goldfish and eventually they outgrew the tank. So we bought a 30 gallon tank with a nice stand for the family room. Eventually the goldies passed away so I decided to stock a community tank with fairly small non aggressive fish. I added a few neons, cory cats, rainbow fish, zebra danias, and harlequin rasboras. I even threw in a pleco and a few snails for good measure.
I had to get rid of the rainbow fish because they grew very large and became aggressive, so I replaced them with some Endler's Livebearers. Well they sure can reproduce! My next thread will be to discuss the best way to give them away. Take care.
