Hello to the forum

have recently set up a Marineland 10 gallon kit mainly to entertain my 2 year old granddaughter, at least that is my excuse. I have had freshwater; saltwater and reef tanks in the past so I have had a lot of experience with aquariums before but I almost feel like a beginner. I will have a lot of questions.

Welcome to our forum! :)
You may have noticed, but in recent years the fish keeping hobby has advanced a ton. There is so much new info and so many new products coming out all the time. Having kept a tank 10 years ago, and now being back into fish, I can see the huge difference already.
Questions are welcome!

taking a break from fish-keeping.
3 lovely male betta still keep me company.

Thanks for the welcome. It has been about 6 years or so since I have had any kind of aquarium. I have learned that I will never do saltwater again and do not intend to get caught up into expensive fish. That said, my first questions are - is a 10 gallon tank really a waste of time?? I admit I wish I had set up a 20 gallon, but I have not. I know the rule of thumb is 1 inch per gallon, but can this rule be bent and how far??

This is what I have come up with as what I would like to ultimately have in this tank:
Live plants I already have in it:
Java ferns

any other suggestions for plantings?

Fish I would like to include:
3 sparkling gouramis
5-6 celestial pearl danios
2 kuhli loaches
2 of the smallest corys possible - and what would they be?? Julii??

Is this reasonable or am I doomed here?? And are the sparkling gouramis and celestial pearl danios easy to obtain??

Another question - The Marineland hood and LED light that came with the 10 gallon kit - IS THIS LED light REALLY ENOUGH LIGHT FOR MY PLANTS (Java fern and cryptocoryne) TO GROW?? One person at the pet store told me no, another said sure, sure....

also I would like to add to the list of what I would ultimately have in this 10 gal. tank - a couple cherry shrimp.

I hope I get some feedback on my posts and questions. Thanks.
