Hello everyone!

Hello im new to this forum :P

I am soon starting up a 55g, planted, tropical fish
Did lots of research on cycling and all the other necesities for a healthy fish tank.
I plan to have 8 cardinal tetras, 4 dwarf gourmis, 5 glass fish, 3 rams, 3 plecos, 4 blood tetras, loaches, 2 chinese algae eaters, and some bambo shrimps.
Any thoughts or adive about having all these fishies?
Thank you community!~

wish me luck!

Hi Blacksheep,

Welcome to the forum. I'd skip the plecos unless you get one or two bristlenoses (your lfs might call some species dwarfs).
the common pleco gets quite large, can be aggressive as they get older, and they are notorious poopers. i just returned one yesterday to my lfs bc he got too big for my 45 gal. and i couldn't keep nitrates under control because of the amount of waste.

And from what I remember, the chinese algae eaters can be aggressive too. You might want to do some more research on compatability before you purchase all of your fish for a community tank.

good luck

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

Welcome to the forum, blacksheep! If it were me (and it's not) I'd ditch the CAEs. What type of loaches were you thinking? Loaches love inverts, yum yum. A common pleco for a 55 I wouldn't do, but the bristlenose would be a good fit. What type of pleco(s) were you considering??

If you don't stand up for something you'll fall for anything...

hello and welcome.

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

Albino bristlenose plecos would work just fine in a 55g. You might only want to get one though, as males can be really territorial with one another and if you get a male and female you might end up with a lot of babies.

Kuhli loaches are cool fish. Also, if you can find them, Botia kubotai, Botia striata, Botia almorhae and the adorable little Botia sidthimunki are all neat fish. Clown loaches get much too big for a 55g though.
