we started with a couple goldfish in a cheap 2.5 gallon tank for my son a couple years ago. this last fall, we decided to upgrade to a 10 gallon because the boy was getting more interested in the fish. we thought this way, we can have a few more fish--and we'll have an excuse to bring the tank into the living room because it would be too big to fit on his nightstand. brilliant!
then a couple weeks ago, i was browsing fish on the petsmart site, and i saw a sale on a 55 gallon starter kit for $200. i couldn't pass it up, so we splurged. with two tanks running in the living room (the 55-gal not yet stocked), i thought we were maxed out.
now we were getting into the hobby bigtime. we started researching good fishkeeping practices and decided we didn't want the goldfish in the same tank as angels and neons, so we have the 2.5 gallon set back up to keep the goldfish separate until the 55 gallon is ready to accept our angelfish and pleco. THEN the goldfish will go back into the 10 gallon until we figure out what to do with them. in the meantime, we picked up a couple danios and platies to help the big tank settle after letting it cycle for a week. (oops, turns out fish-in cycling is not smart!)
so that brought me here. i need to learn the how's, what's, why's, and when's. i am excited to be a part of the community! thank you for having me. :)
