Red face gourami size question

hi there, new to this forum and new to gourami's, i had inteded to purchace some nice small honey gourami's and was sold two golden gourami's(3 spot), which i have since read get to be about 6inches, this i know is too large for the tank i own...my question is how long do have before they reach full size, i'm planning an upgrade but of course $ and cycling time are a factor...the male is 2.5" and the fem aprox 2" any info on their growth rate would be appreciated. thx

hello and welcome
the cycle of a new tank would be aided by filter media from the tank
you are already running you could even run another filter
on the tank you have now, ready for the new tank, also you could add some
benifical bacteria, you buy from the store, some people don't think it's of any
use,but i think it's ok....how big is the tank you have at the moment ?
you have a window of time i would say but under a year.

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

welcome to the forum

Yes, they get large. And aggressive. I don't know how large of a tank you have them in, but the chances are good that you will run into issues well before they reach their full size. You'll know when it's time. How long do you have? Tough to say, and it depends on how large of a tank they are currently in.

they're in my 15 gal collumn tank right now, they chase eachother but the aggression has actually decreased, i did add top water plants so the fem would be more comfortable. seamed to work she's not hiding so much now...plan to be getting a 36 gal bowfront but it wont be til the new year...

honestly, you should try to get a 55 for them. The 36 would be a big improvement, but isn't a long term home for them.

They'll probably be fine where they are for another 3 months, maybe 4. The 36 gallon might get you another year.

Hi. I actually have two three spot blue gouramis. They are male and female. Right now there about an inch and a half. Like you mentioned they get about 6" but are known to get bigger. Right now they are housed in our 55 gallon. They grow fast, but it all depends on species, water quality, etc. They will def. Need a bigger tank. We just went to petsmart today and saw some huge ones. At times they can be aggressive. There usually more aggressive during spawning. If you were to get them in a bigger tank there aggression would descrease because they would have more room. Also you can try to add more hiding places to descrease aggression.
