Exclamation Fish Breeding

Ok i have a 10 gal. tank with a Red wag-tail platy that is pregnant. a tiger barb, 2 daniglo's, a botton feeding algae eater and a painted glass tetra, 2 facy guppies that are pregnant. 1 of them you can see the eyes of the babies and its been like that for about 1 1/2 weeks. the other guppy is really fat. i used to be able to see the eyes but cant anymore. she is really pink in that area now. is she still pregnant. And my red wag-tail platy has been looking like she has been pregnant for over a month now and i have heard gestation period is supposed to be 28 days but a month and a half is a little odd right?

how will i know when to move her to a breeding net. i dont want my tiger barb or other fish to eat the fry.
what signs do i look for? is there any major sign that i can notice and say oh crap time to put her in the birther. is there anything that will delay them from having them.. should i put 1 or both guppies in the net now and see if that helps them have the fry?

i havent had a aquarium since i was 5. im 21 now and i have never bred fish. but i would like to know how and what to look for. and i dont have a spare tank and cant get one to use for the little fry so they gonna have to stay in the net

Hi nickpenn...

Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy it here!

If you post your question in the more appropriate "Livebearer" sub-forum, you will probably get a lot more help/replies to it, as this section is mainly to say Hello and sometimes a question may unintentionally get overlooked here.

Well, to be honest, I'd get rid of the barb... They can get agressive as they age, and need to be in a group of at least 6- preferably 12.

After that, all you need to do is add some plants to the tank, place a sponge over the intake, and wait.

Livebearers can produce 20-200 fry per month- what will you do with them all?

well i dont know what i will do with all of them..i will probably keep a few. the rest, if possible, i will sell to the local fish stores. if they have room for them.

i have a few fake plants in the tank and i have a breeding trap with some artificial grass to protect them.

as for the barb.. hes not too agressive. ive never seen him nip at the other fish.. the only fish he goes after is the daniglos i have and they are a bit too fast for him to catch
