Completely new to aquariums, have 1 gallon tank

A neighbor gave us a 1 gallon tank because his kid couldn't handle taking care of fish yet. I went looking around for the best kind of fish to keep in a tank that small because I know fish need lots of room. Turns out I shouldn't keep ANY fish in a one gallon! But I don't want it to sit unused or throw it out. I saw someone else is setting theirs up for ghost shrimp, and I tried to follow along in their thread, but I don't understand a lot of the jargon.

I have a 1 gallon tank with a bubble filter. It has fake plants and pink gravel on the bottom, and a light on the top that can change colors or turn off.

What do I need to make this tank a place where shrimp can thrive? (If you have an idea for anything besides shrimp I'm also open to ideas, but I do want something alive that moves around for my 3yr daughter)

Go Brine shrimp to start with! Super easy, and Cheap! (Google is your friend)
I think moose toys do a 'sea monkeys' toy which is just brine shrimp. (Feel free to correct me if I am wrong)

Then if you find yourself wanting a tropical fish set up, you will already have growing them live food sussed!
