Besotted

Hi, I became addicted to my husband's freshwater tank which he re-established in Oct '07. He always had a freshwater tank as a young boy. His present tank is a 10 gallon, freshwater with fresh and silk plants. He first started out with guppies, swordtail, zebra danios, neon tetras, angels and a catfish. The swordtails have since died and been replaced with Pearl Gourami's.

In Dec '07 one of the two female dropped fry which I managed to rescue, however through ignorance only three survived. I was working with breeding tanks suctioned to the side of my husband's tank, so he finally bought me a 5 gallon, carbon filter tank, with fresh and silk plants.

I did better with the second batch which were born on 30th Dec '07 from the same mother and now have 21 from that batch.

The second female dropped 21 fry on 15th Dec '07 and looks ready to drop again.

At present I have all 42 guppy fry swimming freely in my 5 gallon tank.

Now out of all 42 guppy fry that I have, they all appear to be females. Is this possible?

Look forward to any forthcoming advice or info.

Cheers :D

Gettng excited

On another note, in my husband's tank, the two female Zebra Danios are pregnant, one more so than the other. How big should she get and how wide/dark should the area on her underside get before she is ready to spawn.

I would attempt to move her with two males into a breeding tank, suctioned to the side of the 5 gallon tank to avoid her spawning in the 10 gallon tank where the fry would be ate.

Thanks :P
