Hello Everyone -
Yet another newbie here. I'm in Las Vegas, Nevada, and just set up a new tank that I got for Christmas from my wife.
The last time I had an aquarium was well over three decades ago. I was about 7 or 8 years old, and diligently cleaned my tank whenever mom asked me to. She wanted it spotless.
So, out came the fish, into a bucket of fresh tap water.
Out came the gravel – I rinsed it and rinsed it until each pebble was squeaky clean.
Windex cleaned the glass tank nicely, and soapy water took all the algae off the plastic plants.
Everything was so pretty when I put the fish back in, along with nice clean tap water.
Until they started dying. Gee… I wonder why that happened.
Considering that I was hell bent on destroying any sort of biological filter that ever developed in my tank, it’s a wonder that my Swordtails ever mated. I still remember the day when I noticed that my tank water seemed murky – a closer look revealed a CLOUD of baby fish.
That was then, and this is now. Expect a lot of questions from me: I’d like to think I can do a bit better now!
