Why not to get a goldfish.

I totally agree! When I worked at Petsmart, that was the record breaker when it came to the best selling fish. Company policy required us to properly educate potential customers about the size and needs of these fish, and so many people were flabbergasted about what they thought they knew about goldfish! Myths that goldfish don't need aeration, they only grow as big as the tank you put them in, and that they are the easiest fish to care for.

Thanks! I'm in the process of cycling (fishless) my first personal tank, and I'm trying to get the equipment and such to plant it with low light. I've done maintenance on a fish tank for my mom, and helped her with a turtle, but this will be a new adventure.
