According to the profiles here, 72 degrees is at the high end for White Clouds and 73 degrees is at the low end for Cardinals. Since White Clouds are so hearty, you could probably get away with 73-75 degrees without stressing the Cardinals too much. As far as the other concerns such as water hardness and PH, the White Clouds can do well within the Cardinals' parameters.

No, I don't see where you're from. It took me a lot longer than 2 days to find out how to post a thread. I finally had to come out and just ask.

Jim, welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping forum.

You can add information like your place of residence by clicking "User CP" at the far left in the blue bar across the top of the page, then click "Edit Your Details" and add whatever you want others to see.

I am moving this thread out of catfish and into the general Freshwater and Tropical Fish section.

A comment on your initial question, I personally would not mix these two fish species. While they may "manage," it is better to keep the white clouds cooler (room temp), and cardinals warmer (around 78F). We have fish profiles, second tab from the left in the blue bar across the top, with data on each species. You can browse them to find suitable tankmates.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
