I have one male betta and two loaches. I was going to add a few otocinclus, bought one a week ago, but it died today ..I changed my mind about those. I would like to add a few more fish, but I don't know what type. Suggestions?

These loaches are a very active fish. They like to be kept in groups of 3 or more and provided with "gathering places" such as caves and broken flower pots. I don't think that Cories would be the best choice for these gregarious little fish. Upper level fishes such as danios, tetras, rasboras and other would make excellent tank mates.
I've been considering getting another loach. But I was afraid 3 would be too much for a 20 high. Though it is planted and does have hiding places. How many schooling fish would be ok?
I'd consider an upgrade to 55g before getting more loaches. 6 harlequin rasboras should be fine but again, if you wish to add more, consider an upgrade. A tall tank is just not adequate for schooling fish especially loaches.
