what kind of algae?

I have som steff in my fish tank that I think is algae. It first appeared as white fuzz floating around in the water in the morning. I looked into the tank and this stuff was just floating around everywhere. I was like oh no! my fish are gonna inhale this stuff and die!!! but then, In the afternoon though it was completely gone. when I looked more closely I saw all my decor and the glass had a thin white fuzzy coating, so I guess It just had settled. Anyway, It is growing the most on the ground under the filter flow. some of it is brown, but mostly it is long and white. all of it is hairy looking. I tried turning off the lights and washing off the decorations but it just came back. What is it, and how do I make it go away.

Can you post a photo that will be clear so we can see this?

No algae is white. White "fuzz' sounds like fungus. White strands, not sure, the photo may clue us in. White stuff floating may just be particulate matter.

It wasn't just little particles floating around, it was like fur! also, in the spots where it is thickest, it is brown. I wouldn't say that it is like filmy...
Anyway, it is mostly all the way gone now, but I would still like to know what it was!

Also, while we are on the topic, my water feels kind of slimy. Do you know what this means?

Not positive, but this may be related. The white fur does sond like fungus. There are I don't know how many species of fungus, some are highly toxic to fish, others not.
