Tetra fish dissapear all of a sudden.....

i have a 90 gallon tank with 5 Discus, 1 black ghost, 1 pleco, 1 tiny water frog, and i had about 20 neon tetras now theres only 11 left lol. my Discus are 2-3 inches big. Discus eat tetras?

I have witnessed adult Discus take neon Tetras. Not sure, but it is possible that the Discus are trying to eat them ,and maybe ghost is finishing them off when they hit the bottom.

It could be either the Discus or the BGK.

i would lean towards the black ghost before suspecting the Discus of eating your neons............

The Discus are on the small side to be snacking on neons just yet. I'd suspect the BGK.

Agree, probably the knifefish. They are avid predators of fish and any live food they can eat, and grow to over 12 inches [according to Baensch/Riehl]. Also note previous thread, comments about these fish eating others and getting 18 inches.

Have never kept ghost knife fish and it certainly sounds capable. I would not rule out the young Discus. Until just recently I kept six Discus and two were juveniles approx,four inches. (became too much like a job) The young ones ,would grab the threadfin rainbows that they were able to catch. I lost two of ten in this manner. I have since found new homes for the Discus and currently have a small group of severums and another group of Angelfish. Had to move the threadfins to their own tank.
In a unrelated case,, I have caught many six to seven inch Largemouth bass on lures or surface plugs twice their length. Always wonder what their intentions were. Suspect they were reaction strikes and would not be surprised ,to observe this with Discus,being the cichlids that they are.
