tankmate suggestions

We have a 45 gal planted tank, with a canister filter so there is moderate flow.
Current residents:
6 Neon Tetras
6 Prestilla tetra
6 Cory Cats
5 Glass cats
3 Swordtails
1 amano shrimp
1 bamboo shrimp

Not too sure whom else we should add. We want to be adding lots of color and interesting habits (ie. Glass cats, shrimps, corys). Lots of these guys love the flow of the filter though, so I feel slow moving fish might not enjoy this environment.

We had black skirt tetras that got rather large and wouldn't leave the corys alone to eat sinking pellets during feedings, so theyre gone now. We had a school of hatchets, who we LOVED because of their behaviors, but unfortunately they were hard to keep and they got injured one by one or jumped to their deaths through the TINY spaces open in the top :(

Any input graciously accepted!

I would suggest a bn pleco :) not only are they super cute but they will keep your whole tank free of algae and unlike common plecos they only get about 4-5in long

1 29g - one red tailed shark, an opaline gourami, and a bristlenose pleco

Knowing your water parameters would help us offer suggestions. Some fish are OK with "average" slightly basic medium hard water, some need softer or harder water. The water current is good to know; as you have very correctly implied, some fish do not appreciate this, others do. Combining fish with very similar needs is always a better path to success.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. Some suitable tetra that can manage in slightly basic water, and would be a decent contrast/compliment in colouring: Flame Tetra, Glowlight Tetra, Head and Tail Light Tetra, Costello or January Tetra, Lemon Tetra. Click the shaded names to see the profile and photos.
